Haitian Stories: St. Michel de l'Atalaye

Every year at the end of June, Vodou pilgrims make the journey to the Grotto de Saint Francis de Assisi, situated near the small Haitian town of Saint-Michel de l'Atalaye. The cave, once inhabited by Taino indians, has become a sacred place of pilgrimage for followers of the Vodou faith, who come in their hundreds to pray and make offerings to the pantheon of Vodou spirits known as 'lwa'.
